Airport Authority Provides Further Information for Project Profile on Expansion of HKIA into Three-runway System

Press Release - 29/06/2012

(HONG KONG, 29 June 2012) – Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) today submitted further information for the project profile on the expansion of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) into a three-runway system. The submission covers areas including marine ecology, noise, health and hazards, as requested by the Director of Environmental Protection (DEP) on 8 June.

Under the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Ordinance, members of the public will have 14 days, from 30 June to 13 July, to forward written comments on the newly submitted information and the project profile to the DEP.

Kevin Poole, Deputy Director, Projects, AAHK, said, "We welcome close monitoring of the EIA by all concerned stakeholders and members of the public. We are firmly committed to carrying it out in a highly transparent and engaging manner.

"The information we provided today, together with the project profile submitted earlier, represents just the first step of a planned two-year process. Once we receive the EIA Study Brief from the DEP, AAHK will conduct extensive, comprehensive studies to thoroughly assess the environmental impact that could arise from a three-runway system. All study findings and possible mitigation measures will be included in our EIA report, which will be issued for public review at an appropriate time in the future, in accordance with the requirements under the EIA Ordinance."

Further information concerning the project profile will be available for public inspection from 30 June on the websites for bothHKIA (http://www.hongkongairport.com) and the EIA Ordinance (http://www.epd.gov.hk/eia). It will also be available from 30 June at the EIA Ordinance Register Office of the Environmental Protection Department; the Environmental Resources Centres at Wan Chai, Tsuen Wan and Fanling; and the Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan and Islands District Offices.
